Hooked on "Rehab Revue"
Reviewed by Beverly Creasey
Last night (17 April) was the closing performance of the REHAB REVUE at Turtle Lane Playhouse. I haven’t laughed so much in eons. Kevin Cirone and company put together an evening of roof-raising production numbers from (mostly new) shows which deal (mostly hilariously) with addiction in some form: from alcohol to drugs to porn to coffee to love. Tracey Nygard hammered “The Ladies Who Lunch.” Nygard and Kendra Alati nailed “Wish I Were Here” and Janine deSouza’a “Coffee Cup Blues” fit in gorgeously, nestled among Sondheim, Mitchell and Jonathan Larson. The entire cast could take up residence on Broadway and wow their socks off.
Here’s the good news. They’ll be going back to REHAB in the fall so if you missed the REVUE, get on the (band) wagon and get your fix from the best musicals around. You can even enjoy your drink during the show at cabaret style tables. I can’t wait to see it again. If you love musicals and you see one show all season, this should be it.
