"All Night Strut"
Ocean State Theatre Company's current show is "The All Night Strut" a musical revue of the 1930's and 40's and is a musical celebration of that time period. It carries people through the Depression, World War II and the post war boom. The music of the evening contains jazz, blues, bebop and classic song standards that tickle the funny bone and raise the rafters by such legendary song writers like Hoagy Carmichael, Frank Loesser, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Cab Calloway and the Gershwins. These songs will take you from the funky jive of Harlem to the sophisticated elegance of El Morroco and the romance of the Stage Door Canteen. This international hit is a slice of yesteryear with sublime music and unbeatable energy that's perfect for the new generation of Swing fans as well as die-hard devotees. Wonderfully directed and choreographed by Brian Swasey and with topnotch musical direction by Paul Buono, this talented four person cast sings 25 songs in this two act show which entertains the audience with their talent.

The four talented performers are Christiana Rodi, Robby May, Da Woyne Hill and Courtney Nolan Smith. Brian infuses them with high energy while Paul taught them the intricate harmony of the songs. Paul plays lead keyboards and he and his small combo of Brian Grochowski on bass and Dan Hann on percussion mesmerize the audience with their expert musicianship. Each vocalist gets a chance to display their vocal prowess and dancing skills in this show. Gorgeous statuesque brunette, Christiana displays her soprano voice in "White Cliffs of Dover" and "Operator" while Robby shows off his bass voice in "Brother Can You Spare a Dime". Da Woyne shows off his tenor voice in "A Nightingale Sang in Barkley Square" and "As Time Goes By" while gorgeous blonde Courtney displays her soprano voice in "I'll Be Seeing You" and "I Get Ideas". She also sings some scat in the jive numbers. Some of the group numbers include "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "Crazy Rhythm", "Dream", "It Don't Mean a Thing" and "Lullaby of Broadway". So for a rollicking evening of fascinating entertainment, be sure to catch "The All Night Strut" at Ocean State Theatre Company before it struts it way out of town.
