Newport Playhouse's current show is the heart warming comedy, "Angel on My Shoulder". It is about a beautiful book illustrator who is having an affair with her dream man, a ruggedly attractive owner of a demolition company. When he announces his intention to leave his family, Donna gets looped and awakes in the arms of an angelic-looking man with wings printed on his sweat shirt. He seems to know everything about her, including her present predicament. Complications ensue when the lover,Paul shows up suitcase in hand to discover Donna is sharing her apartment with her "guardian angel", Charlie. Director Rob Reimer casts these three roles perfectly and cleverly mixes the comic and poignant moments together to win the cast a standing ovation at the close of this show.

Lisa Reimer as Donna gives a tour de force performance. She runs the gamut of emotions in this role showing her superb acting talent. Lisa does a bang up job as the drunken Donna tries to kill herself in various ways. Her lines are easily understood while drunk and she commands the stage as this love struck young woman who must decide who she must marry and her interactions with both men is fantastic, too. Brava on a job very well done. Nishan Lawton does an excellent job as the understanding and sympathetic "Angel". He saves Donna from killing herself several times and his background story brings poignancy to their relationship. Nishan's delivery of his lines and timing is wonderful. Jonathan Perry plays the third side of this triangle with much bravado. He makes Paul into a preening peacock who gets his comeuppance. Jon also gives an excellent portrayal in his drunk scene. This trio of performers bring both comic and dramatic touches to their roles leading to many laughs and a tear or two along the way. So for an outstanding show be sure to catch "Angel on My Shoulder". You will be glad you did. Stage manager Henryce Zannini keeps things moving from the lighting booth with scene change music and many lighting cues while Sandra Nicastro keeps the scene changes moving quickly on stage. Also enjoy a delicious buffet dinner before the show and an energetic and fun cabaret after it.
