MMAS' holiday show this year is "A Broadway Christmas-Kids". This year there are 16 children performers in it. This production is a revue style show featuring popular holiday music taken from films, Broadway musicals and radio classics. This fun stage show has new musical numbers and surprises with gorgeous set design by Glenn Fournier. This musical treat will entertain and thrill the whole family. Director/choreographer Michaela Murphy assembled 16 talented kids for this show with three adult guest stars. The cast of "Broadway Christmas" features Caroline Cooney, Katie Farley, Kathleen Malone, Brooke Downey, Amanda Crimmins, Orlaith Delaney,Adam O'Neill, Sarah Dube, Audrey Finn, Lindsay McDonald,Sara Molla, Abbey McMahon, Ethan Lewis, Addy Marcus, Heidi Gleichauf and Andrae Butler. Michaela chose 30 upbeat and poignant songs, captivating the audience who rewards these talented kids with a thunderous ovation.
Michaela gives each of her performers their chance to shine in this show and choreographs many terrific dances including a tap dance that stops the show. Since there are thirty numbers I will mention a few of them in this review. High School student, Addy sings "Taylor the Latte Boy", a comic number as well as "I Wanna be a Rockette" and "White Christmas", Heidi, a statuesque blonde, sings "Happy Working Song", "Count Your Blessings'' a poignant song and the duet "Sisters" with Caroline, another pretty blonde. Heidi's other poignant song is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" sung with pretty red head, Kathleen. Caroline also sings a duet with Katie called "The Man Over There" about Santa Claus. Amanda, a pretty brunette, sings the poignant songs "Grown Up Christmas List" and "Believe" as well as the comic Supremes type number "All I Want for Christmas is You" and the comic "Turkey Lurkey Time" with Heidi and Addy.
The three boys do the comic "Nuthin For Christmas" which won gales of laughter from the crowd. Adam appears in "Santa Claus is Comin to Town" where the girls taunt him for being a bad boy at Christmas by taking their candy canes. Ethan and Andrae sing duets with Ken Butler. Ken sings O Holy Night where he soars up to a high G with Andrae and also sings Christmas Gifts with Ethan. Ethan also appears in "Be a Santa" sung marvelously by Sarah Dube and Sara Molla while they costume him in hat and beard. The girls do a marvelous tap dance during the song and the do a kick line with Ethan at the end of it. Another spitfire vocalist is Brooke who sings "That Man Over There" about Santa. A touching song is "Where Are You Christmas" sung by Lindsay who also appears in "We Need a Little Christmas" being cheered up by Orlaith and guest performer, Kelly Warriner. Kelly also sings the tear jerking "Christmas Eve" in the second act. The third guest performer in the show is John Marcus as Santa Claus who brings much merriment and joy to the proceedings. There are seven group numbers where the other cast members solo in. So for a fun filled Christmas show, be sure to catch "A Broadway Christmas-Kids" at MMAS. Tell them Tony sent you.
