After having been treated to a wonderful performance of CURSE OF THE BAMINO by this group, I was very much looking forward to this production of INHERIT THE WIND. This production however fell short of my expectations..
Based on the the Scopes Monkey Trial, director Alex Lucchesi attempted to show the audience that the issues from 1925 are in fact still issue today, which in retrospect are to a certain degree. Lucchesi had the trial going on all around the audience to give them the feeling of being a part of the trial, which I felt was unnecessary and distracting from the actual play, which is one of my favorite pieces.
My favorite performances in the show came from John Depew as Matthew Harrison Brady, one of the attorneys, who played the role with authority and understanding of the role and Christopher Charig as the reporter from the Baltimore Sun, who was excellent in his character interpretation.
This is playing for one more performance and if you don't mind being in the middle of things during a show, you may enjoy this more than I did.
