The Fiddlehead Theatre has been in Norwood for eleven seasons, slowly climbing from a local community theatre to a big movie-house to Equity headliners to IRNE Award material --- though the "family flavor" of a community company is still there. A largely local (and loyal) audience shares the ambience with resident artists and performers and enthusiastic newcomers who have learned to trust Producer Meg Fofonoff and Artistic Director Stacey Stephens to make even traditional musicals excitingly new. Their newest new production is of the local warhorse "Crazy for You" which has never looked better. This is actually an ersatz-musical --- a collection of George & Ira Gershwin songs strung into an entirely new story (Book-writer is uncredited in this program), which enjoys theater's froth while giving an enthusiastic cast and crew (and audience) a license to enjoy.

The period for the show is the "all-singing, all-talking, all-dancing" late '20s Follies era, when a "girl" would want "to add his initial to my monogram" and a young banker-playboy can admit "I'm DANCIN' and I can't be bothered now!" That pair at Fiddlehead are David Costa and Michele DeLuca, who share the spotlight with a half-dozen pairs of the longest, prettiest, tapping-est legs on any stage, a slew of Deadrock Nevada hangers-on learning to dance up storms, and a classic crew of carefuly crafted comic characters, each one taking well-deserved moments in the spotlight.

Co-Director Wendy Hall has given everyone dazzlingly original steps that would look impossible --- if the dancers weren't so obviously enjoying themselves. And Co-Director and Costume Designer Stacey Stephens has given the gloriously unreal show a smooth, believable flow in which not only the stars but everyone can be unique (And then added a comic walk-on for himself!). That flavor has become the warm, Fiddlehead Standard.

The bottom-line is that even if you'd seen the show before, this is a worthwhile reprise and, if you never have --- why not?
