Revel’s 37th annual production of THE CHRISTMAS REVELS IN CELEBRATION OF THE WINTER SOLSTICE transports its audience to the Balkans to usher in the holidays with the region’s traditional singing, dancing and folklore. My thoughts from last year’s German offering ring just as true, here: “if there is a lesson being taught, here, it would be that the community that celebrates together is a strong, unshakeable one --- a far cry from today’s global village which shrinks even further with each new piece of technology but whose social skills (and heart) become more and more fragmented.” My one reservation echoes last year’s, as well --- that the evening is too rich, too stuffed with its numerous turns --- but Revel’s communal spirit remains infectious, none the less, and ‘tis always rewarding to see Debra Wise in anything, even if her current narrator-hostess pales besides her marvelously grotesque Knecht Ruprecht, last December.
