If you’re accustomed to staying awake until midnight, then COMPANY ONE has a show for you. After their 8 o’clock performance of Stephen Sondheim’s highbrow ASSASSINS, you could stay right in your seat at the BCA to see the devilishly lowbrow AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL (through Aug. 8)
Rick Park and John Kuntz could, as they say, read the phonebook and get plenty of laughs. But in drag, they’re unstoppable. Kuntz contributed the ghastly (and I mean that in the good sense of the word) script and the two Zen comedy masters (and a guest joker) cavort en and out of travesti.
Kuntz is adorable as a pigtailed naïf whose formidable mom (Park) just wants her to make friends. Park brings down the house as a skanky tease in Cher hair, leopard skin-tight pants and gold heels. Guest slut (on my night Greg Maraio) is delectable in his sexy get-up (but not as sexy as Park.--I know he’d want me to put that in.)
Goodness gracious. Need I say more?
